***Attention all Island and Supervised Riders***
For those who have not yet received an IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization) Certification Level 3 and 4 Rider and wish to do so, we will now allow testing in while out at the island. All tests must be verified by one of the Instructors, either myself, Karl, Christine or Kris.
Why do I need to be Certified: Some kite spots whether in the US or abroad, will not allow you to kite there or rent gear without proof of certification.
Would encourage everyone to visit IKO website for additional information and benefits for becoming a member.
Level 3 Test Requirements:
- Demonstrate a full self rescue with body drag using the kite
- Ride Toeside upwind
- Transition
Level 4 Test Requirements:
- Jump with grab
- Board Recovery (someone else’s board)
- Power Jibe (heel to toe downwind transition)
* For any Island or Supervised riders who do not know how to do a self rescue, please feel free to join in on that portion of a Kite Skills lesson. Self Rescue is a skill that every Kiteboarder should have down. You do not want to find yourself in the ocean wishing you had practiced when something goes wrong.
* For Island riders who want to work with an instructor on any of the requirements (separate from Self-Rescue) to become a Certified Rider, we can arrange a special session to do so at a prearranged cost.
Feel free to reach out with any questions.
See you on the water!
