Using a specialized foil board and wave energy alone, prone foilers can ride smaller waves earlier, farther, and longer than traditional surfers. What would normally feel like an average surf day suddenly becomes rideable.
At Kainetic Adventures, our prone foiling lessons at Spray Beach, New Jersey are designed for adventurous beginners, surfers looking to progress into foil sports, and riders interested in exploring the future of surfing at the Jersey Shore.
Whether you’re completely new to hydrofoiling or building toward wing foiling and downwind foiling, prone foiling teaches the core balance, board control, and wave awareness that transfers across every foil discipline.

What to Expect
Your session starts with a beachside intro covering foil safety, paddling technique, wave positioning, and how the hydrofoil generates lift beneath the board. From there, you'll head into the surf with your instructor to begin practicing timing, balance, and controlled wave entries.
Most first-time riders begin by learning how the foil reacts beneath the board before progressing toward short glides above the surface. Smaller waves that might normally go unridden can suddenly become long, flowing rides with the foil engaged.
Because prone foiling relies entirely on wave energy, every session is a mix of progression, challenge, and pure reward once everything clicks.

Lesson Details
- $250/person
- 1.5-hour prone foil lesson
- Small-group instruction (2:1, sometimes 1:1 depending on bookings. Excludes group bookings)
- Location: Spray Beach, New Jersey
- Gear included: foil board and helmet
- Not Included: Wetsuit (recommended in colder months) and booties (mandatory)
Best Conditions
Prone foiling works best on clean surf with lighter winds and organized swell. Morning sessions typically offer smoother water and cleaner conditions, helping riders progress faster and enjoy longer rides once the foil begins lifting above the surface.
